Or they could refinance the $88,400 at a cost of $573.36 a month, then take out a $20,000 home equity loan at 9 percent for 20 years. That would cost $179.95 a month. You see, what happens behind the scenes is that your loan got packaged into a pool with a lot of other loans and sold off to one of the three institutions listed above.
